DANCING FOR THE LORD JESUS!

At last we have finalized the dates for the tambourine and flags workshop in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The workshop will be on 4th-5th June 2009 (Thursday-Friday) at Church of Praise, (Bukit Indah) Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Shachah ministry team (from Singapore) and the Founder... Aunty Magrate Yap will be coming to instruct in the workshop. Tentatively we will be focusing on tambourine (beginners- advance levels), Flags (beginners- advance levels) and dance techniques for worship. Pastor Michael and ‘Aunty’ Magrate Yap, founders of Shachah Ministires International, and their three daughters, Mae, Melissa and Maxine, are originally from Malaysia. Together as a family, they have been pioneers in developing the area of Creative Worship by redeeming the many facets of the creative arts.

Aunty Magrate Yap trained under the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus (London), in classical ballet for many years. She founded the Mei-grate Academy of Ballet in 1974 and continued instructing there for 10 years. After her born-again experience in 1984, together with her family, she and Pastor Michael attended Christ for the Nations Institute, Dallas, Texas. While at the Bible Institute, the Lord spoke clearly to both Pastor Michael and Aunty Magrate, “If you are obedient, I will use you to bring dance back into My Kingdom.” In 1985, Aunty Magrate with the help of Pastor Michael wrote the first tambourine manual, “Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord”, while they were students at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas. Aunty Magrate then instructed the tambourine class for one and a half years and developed a syllabus that was implemented as a course elective in 1986 at the request of Freda Lindsay, the co-founder of Christ for the Nations Institute. The course is still offered today.

Pastor Michael graduated from Christ For the Nations with an Associate of Practical Theology and Magrate graduated with a Leadership Certificate in Practical Theology. After graduation, the Yap family returned to Malaysia and started Shachah Ministries International, previously known as Shachah Creative Music and Dance Centre. In 1996 the manual “Dance Technique in Worship Workshop - Level 1′, was released fulfilling their obedience to bring dance back into His Kingdom.

Since then, many churches all over the world have grasped the vision in this aspect of creative worship. Numerous ministries have sprouted since release of a long awaited form of training that not only has its foundation in the Bible but along with it, a structured form of discipline in its curriculum. Countries like Singapore and Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan were the first few that responded with much enthusiasm.

The response from the other nations was indeed overwhelming. This can only result in one conclusion and that is the Lord has need of it.
